Work is underway to revamp a rowing venue to be ready for the Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games.

The Sichuan Water Sports School, located in Xinjin District, Chengdu, is equipped with 2,350-metre long, 150m wide artificial competition lanes.

But it will now receive a face lift with the renovation project set to spruce up several areas of the site including the competition facilities, spectator area and the base for the media.

A statement on the Chengdu 2021 website said it was aiming to make the venue "more functional and convenient" which could "provide the best quality services for athletes".

The work is scheduled to be completed by February 2021 with the Games scheduled to take place from August 18 to 29 that year.

During the Games, 15 gold medals will be won at the venue which has previously staged the Asian Rowing Championships, National Games of the People's Republic of China, Chinese Rowing Championships, and International Universities Rowing Races.

A total of 49 competition training venues - with 13 being newly built and 36 renovated - and a main media centre have been set up for Chengdu 2021.
