The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) has been recognised by the Korean Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism for its work teaching the martial art to refugees around the world.

Park Yang-woo has sent a certificate of commendation to the organisation to commend them for helping displaced people and turning them into "global citizens".

THF staff have been particularly praised for promoting education through taekwondo, the Olympic spirit and world peace.

They received their certificate as part of the celebrations of Taekwondo Day earlier this month.

Taekwondo fans from around the world used the occasion to mark the 20th anniversary of the sport's Olympic debut at Sydney 2000.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue announced the creation of the THF in 2015.

A flagship academy is up-and-running at the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan, where young Syrians learn the Korean sport.

Other projects have started in countries such as Rwanda, Djibouti, Turkey and Colombia.
