USA Judo cancelled the National President’s Cup Championships in November in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Competition was due to take place in Irving in Texas on November 22.

The Dallas Invitational and USA Judo Senior Nationals, scheduled for November 21 and 22 respectively, have also been cancelled, as well as in-person committee meetings.

"We cannot adequately express the disappointment felt by USA Judo’s Board and staff to not have been able to host any of our national championships this year," said USA Judo chief executive Keith Bryant.

"However, the safety of our members will always be USA Judo’s number one priority.

"While we are not alone in the limitations imposed on our sport due to COVID-19, we have seen and heard the challenges being faced by judokas young and old and the dojos where they train.

"USA Judo encourages the American judo family to continue supporting each other during these difficult times and remain healthy, safe and strong."

Bryant also revealed USA Judo hoped to stage events in 2021.

"Similar to the judo phrase, 'fall down seven times and get up eight', USA Judo has fallen four times this year by having to cancel all of its national events," he said.

"However, we know the USA Judo family is resilient and we look forward to getting back up not only to train and compete again in 2021, but to reconnect as a USA Judo family.

"The full 2021 USA Judo national events schedule will be released soon."

Refunds will be provided or credit given out for future USA Judo national events and membership fees within one year’s time.

The United States is the country worst impacted by the pandemic, reporting more than 7.4 million cases and 211,000 deaths.
