Denmark's Anne-Marie Rindom extended her lead at the top of the women's laser radial standings after a consistent third day of the European Laser Championships in Gdansk in Poland.

The reigning European champion finished second in both of her fleet races and after six races sits top of the standings on seven points - a full 10 points ahead of Dutch sailor Marit Bouwmeester in second.

Bouwmeester, the current world and Olympic champion, lost touch after a poor fifth race where she could only finish 23rd, but did record a third-place finish in her sixth race.

Poland's Agata Barwińska had another solid day, finishing second and eighth to move up to third on 18 points.

A gap has been formed to the rest of the pack, with Belgium's Emma Plasschaert and The Netherlands' Maxime Jonker sitting on 25 and 27 points respectively.

Race wins today went to Germany's Svenja Weger, who is ninth in the overall standings, Finland's Monika Mikkola, Klara Utterström of Sweden and home sailor Lilly May Niezabitowska.

Only one race was held in the men's laser competition, with Britain's Michael Beckett moving top of the standings after a second-place finish, giving him 11 points.

Level on points with him is Croatia's Filip Jurišić, who discarded today's race after finishing down in 41st - before today he had not finished outside the top four.

Cyprus' Pavlos Kontides took advantage of those around him struggling to move up to third after placing fourth in race five.

Kontides now sits on 17 points - one ahead of Britain's Lorenzo Chiavarini who finished fifth in his only race of the day.

Guatemala's Juan Ignacio Maegli took a race win today to improve his overall score to 28, moving him up to eighth, while Germany's Nik Aaron Willim moved up to 17th after winning his fleet's race.

In the men's laser radial, The Netherlands' Paul Hameeteman maintained his lead by finishing second and sixth in races five and six.

Hameeteman now holds a five-point lead on 13.

Poland's Filip Ciszkiewicz had his worst day to date after finishing seventh and then eighth, discarding his last result to have a points total of 18.

Poland's Przemysław Machowski had the best day in the field and is third overall.

Machowski finished fourth in race five and then won the sixth to leapfrog a number of contenders and now sits on 29 points.

Three points back on 32 is Ukraine's Oskar Madonich, who had a mixed day after winning the fifth race but then placing 21st in the next.

The event is due to reach its climax on October 13.
