Swiss Olympic and Swiss University Sports have renewed the cooperation deal first agreed by the two organisations in 2017.

The arrangement aims to help top Swiss athletes combine their training and competitions with studying.

Jürg Stahl, the President of Swiss Olympic, penned the extension alongside Swiss University Sports counterpart Yves Flückiger.

They met at the University of Lucerne, in the host city of the postponed 2021 Winter World University Games.

"With the further development of the 2017 declaration, we want to provide even better support for Swiss athletes who combine top-level sport and studies in the future," said Stahl.

A new feature of the deal will be the creation of a network of university staff members who can offer athletes competent advice and support for when they plan their studies.

"On the part of the universities, flexibility measures are being designed more and more individually, and the possibilities of location-independent learning are increasingly being expanded," said Flückiger.

Lucerne 2021 was due to take place in January before the decision was taken to delay the Games due to the coronavirus pandemic.

New dates for the event are yet to be announced.
