Paralympic silver medallist Rehab Ahmed was announced as the final participant of the World Para Powerlifting Online World Cup Finals.

The Egyptian was a gold medallist in the women’s under-50 kilograms category at the 2019 World Championships in Kazakhstan's capital Nur-Sultan and took silver in the same event at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

She beat Brazil’s Mariana D’Andrea and Uganda’s Muhamed Nigo in a three-day vote on the World Para Powerlifting Facebook and Twitter accounts to earn a place at the Online World Cup Finals.

Ahmed will now be joining the eight other participants on November 17.

This includes three-time Paralympic champion Amalia Pérez of Mexico, Russia's Anastasiia Mamadamirova, Cristina Poblador of Colombia and David Degtyarev of Kazakhstan.

Jainer Cantillo of Colombia, Latsami Sipaseuth of Laos, Italy's Matteo Cattini, Vera Muratova of Russia complete the line-up.

For the first time, the competition will be shown live with technical officials judging the lifts as they happen.

Athletes will also be able to follow the results of the other competitors.

The Online World Cup Finals is set to be a mixed event and not divided by men's and women's categories, with the winner due to receive a bar from World Para Powerlifting partner Eleiko.

The Online World Cup Series was launched in April to give athletes the opportunity to compete from home or their local training centre during the COVID-19.

In total, 129 powerlifters from nearly 50 countries took part in five Online World Cup Series.
