The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has appointed International Sports Broadcasting Company (ISB) as its broadcast, content and streaming platforms strategy partner.

A GEF release said the ISB will "guide the strategy on broadcast and content plans for the GEF – evolving the co-ordinated strategy, engagement and innovation – managing the approach across the dynamic events portfolio, platforms, partners and projects.

"Founded by Manolo Romero, acclaimed as one of the world’s leading broadcast pioneers, ISB will, create and co-ordinate live video content, athlete and team profiles and documentaries for the GEF.

"ISB, now led by next-generation Managing Director, Ursula Romero, will also assist in broadcast rights management, working directly with rights-holding broadcasters, ensuring that all esports events offer state-of-the-art broadcast and digital coverage."

GEF President Chris Chan said: “We are delighted to have the unmatched experience of ISB with us.

"As we rapidly consider the way we consume and share esports as entertainment, the GEF will benefit from ISB’s world leading innovation and revolutionary ideas on how to present and broadcast esports now, tomorrow and into the future."

Manolo Romero added: “This offers very exciting broadcast possibilities, utilising innovative coverage techniques – delivered across all available platforms."

Ursula Romero said: "We want to find and bring to life the powerful stories of esports – throughout the community – through compelling innovative broadcasting mixed with features, vignettes and documentaries.

"A big part of our vision is to be the storytellers, and to creatively present those stories to the world, both engaging established audiences and expanding to new markets."

The Singapore-based GEF was launched last December and is backed by Chinese technology company Tencent.

Earlier this month GEF announced it would launch its inaugural Global Esport Games in December 2021 with 20 countries said to be interested in playing host.

The event will rival the International Esports Federation's (IESF) World Championship, which has run for 11 editions and also traditionally takes place in December.

The possibility of Olympic inclusion one day has been a topic of discussion for a number of years, but the sport's governance remains an issue with both the GEF and IESF - established in 2008 - in operation.

In October insidethegames exclusively revealed details of a letter which said the International Olympic Committee was not planning to recognise an esports federation.

This year's IESF World Championship was due to be held in Eilat in Israel in December but has been moved to February 2021.
