Cazoo has been announced as the principal sponsor of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, with the agreement billed as the largest sponsorship deal in the event’s history.

Cazoo and Rugby League World Cup 2021 confirmed the agreement is for a seven-figure rights fee.

"Rugby League World Cup 2021 is about being bold and brave and setting firsts for the tournament," said Jonathan Neill, Rugby League World Cup 2021 commercial director.

"This is the largest sponsorship deal in Rugby League World Cup history and we are grateful for the trust Cazoo have shown in the tournament.

"RLWC2021 and Cazoo share many of the same principles and values, both have a clear ethical purpose, and we will work together to continue to be trailblazing and positively disruptive over the next 12 months."

Cazoo is billed as the United Kingdom's leading online car retailer, and claims to make buying a used car as simple as purchasing any other product online.

The company was founded by Alex Chesterman and since its launch last year has reportedly grown to a team of over 800 people.

Cazoo reportedly generated revenues of more than £150 million ($199 million/€168 million) in its first year.

Cazoo says it is pioneering transparency and convenience in the field of buying used cars entirely online, with the company owning and reconditioning its cars before offering them for sale.

Every Cazoo car comes with a full seven-day money-back guarantee and a comprehensive 90-day warranty, and the company already sponsor's two Premier League football clubs.

Chesterman said the partnership with the Rugby League World Cup will help to grow the company’s brand awareness.

"We are delighted to sponsor the Rugby League World Cup 2021, one of the biggest sporting events taking place in England next year," Chesterman, who also founded property website Zoopla, said.

"This partnership will continue to drive our brand awareness as we make Cazoo a household name.

"We’re excited to engage with the loyal Rugby League fan base and provide them with the UK’s best possible car buying experience."

Rugby League World Cup 2021 says the company will benefit from 14 million followers of rugby league in the UK.

Organisers hope thousands will be able to attend matches next year, despite uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

"This is a very significant moment for the tournament and Cazoo’s sponsorship further supports our excitement and confidence in delivering the best Rugby League World Cup ever," said Jon Dutton, Rugby League World Cup 2021 chief executive.

"It is an indication of the status we are building at RLWC2021, the biggest sporting event exclusively staged in England next year, that Cazoo have chosen us to continue to help them deliver against their brand and business objectives."

The men's Rugby League World Cup 2021, featuring 16 teams, is due to run from October 23 to November 27 next year.

The eight-team women's tournament is scheduled for November 13 to 27, with the wheelchair event running alongside both competitions.

A total of 61 matches are set to be played across 21 venues in England.

All matches will be shown live on the BBC in the UK.
