Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Honorary President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM), has officially opened the organisation's new headquarters in the principality.

The UIPM's new head offices are within Stade Louis II, the stadium used by football club AS Monaco and for Diamond League athletics meetings.

UIPM President Klaus Schormann and vice-president Joël Bouzou offered Prince Albert a socially-distanced tour of the new office space, which has been renovated and decorated in the colours of the governing body.

Prince Albert spoke to staff at their desks, signed a plexiglass wall and engaged in a laser-shooting experience during his visit.

A five-time Olympian representing Monaco in bobsleigh, Prince Albert has been an International Olympic Committee member since 1985.

Monaco has been the UIPM's base since 1997.

The visit was concluded with a conference between Prince Albert, Schormann and UIPM secretary general Shiny Fang.

"It was a great honour to be here in Monaco to officially welcome Prince Albert II of Monaco to the new headquarters of UIPM - 23 years after I welcomed him to the opening of our first official UIPM headquarters in Monaco on July 11 1997," Schormann said.

"We are grateful to Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Palace of Monaco for their continued support of our sporting movement.

"With this move to a new headquarters we have demonstrated our commitment to the Principality while upgrading to an office more suited to a rapidly growing international federation of Olympic sport."

The UIPM was formed in 1948 in Britain during the London Olympics of that year, and modern pentathlon's global governing body now has more than 120 member federations.

During the visit, Prince Albert was provided with updates on topics including UIPM governance, its 2021 Congress, its financial outlook and preparations for upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo and Paris.
