The top three seeds at the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Black Ball Squash Open, Nour El Sherbini, Nouran Gohar and Camille Serme, have all been knocked out in the quarter-finals.

The last eight in Cario started with an upset as New Zealand's Joelle King beat world number two Gohar.

King shocked the Egyptian in straight games, and needed less than 40 minutes to win 11-9, 11-5, 11-9.

England's Sarah-Jane Perry defeated French star Serme shortly afterwards to set up a semi-final against King.

That clash will be a rematch of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games final, which King won.

Perry fought back from a game down to beat Serme today.

Victory for the Englishwoman looked unlikely after a 1-11 drubbing in the first game, but she won the next three 11-6, 11-8, 11-5.

Egypt's Hania El Hammamy put an end to the upsets despite losing the opening games versus eighth seed Tesni Evans of Wales.

The fourth seed and reigning champion rebounded to win 10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6.

The 20-year-old may have expected to face world number one El Sherbini in the last four - and that would have been a rematch of last year's Black Ball Squash Open final - but it was not to be.

That is because Amanda Sobhy of the United States stunned El Sherbini, twice coming from behind to win 7-11, 11-7, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9.

Sobhy avenged younger sister Sabrina, who El Sherbini knocked out yesterday.

"Nobody beats two Sobhys in a row," Sobhy said post-match.

"I am in shock a little bit and I don’t think it has sunk in. It is all a blur but I still can’t believe I just beat the world number one.

"I know the tournament isn’t over yet, it’s not even close to being over, but I haven’t had a good win in so long, so this just feels really nice."

The PSA World Tour Gold event is due to conclude on Saturday (December 12), and will be followed by the men's competition from December 13 to 18.
