All of the eight seeded players in action - including world number one Ali Farag - were victorious as the men's Professional Squash Association (PSA) Black Ball Squash Open began in Cairo.

Farag did not have it all his own way against Spaniard Iker Pajares Bernabeu however, losing the first game.

The Egyptian fought back to win 11-13, 11-3, 11-3, 11-7 in 55 minutes and set up a second-round match versus compatriot Omar Mosaad.

Mossad beat Eain Yow Ng of Malaysia, an Asian Games team gold medallist.

New Zealand's Paul Coll, seeded fourth, beat Frenchman Victor Crouin in three games and will play Mostafa Asal next in a rematch of their Egyptian Open quarter-final in October, which Asal won in five dramatic games.

Egypt's Asal won another five-game affair today, ultimately having too much for Indian Mahesh Mangaonkaras as he triumphed 12-10, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-1.

Colombian Miguel Rodríguez won in five games too, edging out Egypt's Youssef Soliman 7-11, 11-3, 11-7, 4-11, 11-9.

Another host-nation player, Zahed Salem, awaits the sixth seed after Salem defeated Swiss Nicolas Müller.

Egypt's Mohamed Abouelghar beat Frenchman Lucas Serme in straight games and another French player, Grégoire Marche, is up next for him.

Marche beat England's Nathan Lake 11-2, 15-13, 7-11, 11-2 in a match bookended by two periods of dominance.

The PSA World Tour Gold tournament continues tomorrow, with Karim Abdel Gawad - champion when the event was last played in 2018 - playing world number 33 Mohamed ElSherbini in an all-Egyptian clash.
