Tara Geraghty-Moats of the United States was the winner of the inaugural International Ski Federation (FIS) Women's Nordic Combined World Cup event in Ramsau.

The historic contest had been scheduled to take place in Lillehammer in Norway at the start of December, but was postponed due to the continued uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ramsau stepped in as host, with the season-opener of the FIS Women's Ski Jumping World Cup running alongside competition at the Austrian resort.

Geraghty-Moats triumphed despite finishing sixth in the ski jump with 116.0 points.

She impressed in the cross-country stage, however, crossing the line first in 13mins 58.3secs.

"Today here in Ramsau was a dream come true," said Geraghty-Moats.

"It was something I’ve dreamed about since I was 10 years old - before it was even a possibility.

"Just a huge thanks to my team and FIS for finally inviting the women to the big leagues."

The Japanese athlete had been third in the ski jump with 118.5 points.

It is not known when the next FIS Women's Nordic Combined World Cup event will be, although a Nordic combined event for women is set to feature at the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Oberstdorf, scheduled to take place from February 22 to March 7 2021.

Action in the men's World Cup is scheduled to take place in Ramsau tomorrow.
