Fares Dessouky celebrates after coming back from two games down to beat Ali Farag and win the PSA CIB Men's Black Ball Open ©PSA World Tour

Fares Dessouky scored the biggest win of his career as he overturned a two game deficit to stun world number one Ali Farag in the final of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour CIB Men's Black Ball Open in Cairo.

Dessouky started the contest against his Egyptian compatriot as the underdog having lost all five of his previous meetings with the world number one.

Farag was also heading into the match on a 14-game winning streak and he showed why he has been a dominant force on the PSA World Tour in 2020 as he played some impressive squash to take the first game 11-5.

Farag maintained his level in game two and took it 11-8.

The turnaround in the match started in game three with Dessouky increasing his rate of winners on the way to taking game three 11-7.

The winners continued to flow from the racket of the man from Alexandria as he took game four 11-8.

Dessouky had already gone the distance in matches against defending champion Karim Abdel Gawad and world champion Tarek Momen and added Farag to the list winning game five 11-8 to take the fourth title of his career in 73 minutes.

Speaking after his comeback win Dessouky, the 11th seed said: "It feels amazing, this is the biggest final of my career so far, and today I got the win, so I’m very lucky.

"I didn’t have any plan for today, to be honest. I just went on court to give 100 per cent so people could enjoy the match.

"The last match I played in Qatar, I gave up in the semi-final and I didn’t want to do the same at this tournament.

“I wanted to grab the win for my family and all my friends who came here to support me, so thanks a lot to them. I have a new mental coach now, I know the people wanted something like that, and it’s working step-by-step."

After the match a gracious Farag said: "I’m disappointed but not in myself, I left it all out there and that’s something I can be proud of.

"Sometimes you come up against an opponent who is playing really well and tactically he got it spot on.

"When you’re playing well in the first two games and you lose it, it can be hard to regain it. All credit to Fares, winning so many great battles back-to-back is a testament to who he has become, so I want to congratulate him."

Dessouky wins over $16,000 (£11,900/€13,000) for his victory in the PSA Gold tournament, the last World Tour event of the calendar year.
