The Mauritius Olympic Committee (MOC) has organised the launch of the country's national teqball federation as another African nation looks to develop the sport.

Supported by the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ), an event invited athletes and sports leaders to experience teqball in person through training sessions and exhibition matches.

President of the MOC, Philippe Hao Thyn Voon Ha Shun, expressed his excitement for the development of the sport in the future.

"The launch of the Mauritius National Teqball Federation was a resounding success and we cannot wait to take the sport to people all over our country," he said.

"We have been following the sport's progress through the amazing content on social media and we couldn't wait any longer to experience it ourselves.

"We're grateful to FITEQ for their support in kick-starting our teqball journey and now the fun can really begin."

FITEQ now has 90 national teqball federations worldwide, of which 26 are in Africa.

Teqball was a demonstration sport at the 2019 African Beach Games in Cape Verde, and it has been recognised by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa.

Teqball is set to feature as a medal sport at the 2021 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, which were initially scheduled for December 2020 before being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Games are now set to take place from April 2 to 10, 2021.
