Dave Chisnall stunned Michael van Gerwen in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship quarter-finals, whitewashing the world number one to reach the last four for the first time.

With a superb three-dart average of 107.34, England's Chisnall won all five sets at London's Alexandra Palace and ended a run of 27 matches against Van Gerwen without a win.

Chisnall, who hit 14 maximums, said after the match that he was "so proud" of how he had so thoroughly outplayed the three-time world champion.

"I've been under the radar for the last few years but I want this World Championship title and I know I am playing well enough to win it," the 40-year-old added.

It is the first time since 2016 that Van Gerwen has not reached the semi-finals.

Two-time champion Gary Anderson awaits Chisnall, following a 5-1 triumph over Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Dutchman Van Duijvenbode had been one of the most impressive players at the World Darts Championship and won the first set of the quarter-final, but was then blown away by Anderson.

The Scot reeled off five consecutive set victories - two by a 3-0 scoreline and two 3-1 - to secure a place in the last four.

Anderson's average - 101.07 - was his best of the tournament so far.

After the match, Anderson admitted it was the best he had played "probably over the last two years".

Anderson won the world title in 2015 and 2016, but had only once reached the semi-finals since.

Third seed Gerwyn Price of Wales is now the top-ranked player remaining, after he knocked off Daryl Gurney 5-4.

Price established 2-0 and 4-2 leads, but let Northern Ireland's Gurney back into the contest and a winner-takes-all final set was needed.

That set came down to a deciding leg and, with the throw, Price won.

Stephen Bunting, a former British Darts Organisation world champion, is up next for Price after beating Pole Krzysztof Ratajski.

England's Bunting raced into a three-set lead and closed out a 5-3 win to book a place in the last four - a stage he has never before reached at the PDC's flagship event.
