Sustainability company Myclimate, already a partner of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), will create a guide to help the competition in Switzerland become carbon neutral. 

The carbon footprint of the 2018 Men's World Floorball Championship has been calculated and will now serve as a benchmark for the planned measures for 2022. 

Action is scheduled to take place from November 5 to 13 in 2022 at the new Swiss Life Arena in Zurich and AXA Arena in Winterthur. 

"We really want to make this event stand out and in the end make a real difference," said the tournament's managing director Daniel Kasser. 

"We believe the cooperation with Myclimate enables us to create a very special journey for our fans, partners and sponsors towards the end-of-year event in 2022. 

"As part of the project we also plan, in cooperation with the IFF, to compile a sustainability manual for IFF event organisers. 

"This document helps to identify key topics and also presents concrete examples for implementation."

Myclimate communications manager Kai Landwehr explained several of the ideas the company had to increase the sustainability of the World Championships. 

"It makes a huge difference if fans or teams travel by train instead of flying," he said.

"Further, a hundred cars with individual fans travelling emit far more than two jointly organised fan buses.

"With a target of 150,000 spectators for the event this also presents a major opportunity to educate the audience on sustainable topics - may it be informative brochures and bulletins, or concrete things like donating in-venue bottle deposits for environmental causes. 

"And not to forget the thousands and thousands of people following the event in digital channels."

In October, the IFF decided to take part in the Olympic Movement Carbon Initiative in a bid to continue its development and activities in sustainability.

The governing body had joined the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework in late 2019 and then teamed up with Myclimate to improve its practices. 

Sixteen countries are set to contest the 2022 Men's World Floorball Championship, including hosts Switzerland, defending champions Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic. 

The last time the event was held in Switzerland was in 2012, when it was co-hosted by Bern and Zurich.
