Congo and DR Congo booked their place in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship after they won their final group games at the tournament in Cameroon.

Congo topped Group B following a narrow 1-0 victory over Libya, while DR Congo beat Niger 2-1 thanks to Masasi Obenza's stoppage time goal.

The two sides join Mali and Cameroon in the last eight.

Congo's Cautrand Ngouenimba scored the only goal of the game even minutes after half-time at Japoma Stadium in Douala to propel his side into the quarter-finals.

Poor defending from Libya, who won the event in 2014, allowed Ngouenimba to finish from close range.

Niger needed to beat DR Congo at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé to stand any chance of qualifying for the next round but fell behind to Kadima Kabangu's strike 27 minutes in.

Mossi Mousa equalised for Niger 17 minutes from time before a howler from goalkeeper Abdoul Razak Halidou gifted Obenza a tap-in.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the conclusion of Group C, where all four teams can still reach the last eight.

Morocco, who are top of the group heading into the final round of matches, will qualify if they avoid defeat to Uganda, who need to win to progress.

Togo are second behind Morocco and will qualify with a draw against Rwanda, who will be eliminated unless they claim maximum points.
