Ryōta Yamamoto topped the standings in the provisional round of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Combined World Cup in Klingenthal.

The Japanese 23-year-old led the results list after jumping 139.5 metres and earning exactly 140 points.

Lukas Greiderer of Austria achieved the same distance and finished just 0.9 points behind Yamamoto.

France's Laurent Mühlethaler jumped 138.0m and placed third on 137.6.

With only 49 skiers lining up for the provisional round, all athletes qualified for the competition proper tomorrow.

If the provisional round's results have to be used due to adverse weather conditions, Harald Riiber will not score any points.

The Norwegian was disqualified from today's competition after wearing a non-conforming jumping suit.

Competition is already without his brother, Jarl Magnus Riiber, who has decided to skip this weekend's event to focus on preparations for the World Championships later this month.

Action continues tomorrow with a World Cup contest, with a second scheduled for Sunday (February 7).
