International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) has welcomed a series of upcoming National Challenger Series events in Asia, as countries prepare for the Teqball World Championships.

Malaysia is due to host Asia’s first National Challenger Series event on February 20 and 21.

The governing body said the sport has grown significantly in Malaysia over the past two years, with The Prince of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail recently giving royal approval to the introduction and promotion of teqball throughout the state.

FITEQ said Malaysia organised a Challenger Cup in the capital Kuala Lumpur in 2019, which had impressive youth participation and helped launch the sport in the country.

India is expected to host four National Challenger Series events in April, with athletes from across the country looking to secure a place at the World Championships.

Teqball India was praised by FITEQ for its impressive progress despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The national federation hosted several online educational workshops, which have led to more qualified referees in India.

All National Challenger Series events are livestreamed.

FITEQ say further National Challenger Series events in Asia and around the world are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Events are set to provide athletes with the opportunity to earn prize money and world ranking points.

Athletes will also have the chance to qualify for the 2021 Teqball World Championships.

New Jersey is hosting a National Challenger Series event in the United States this weekend.

The competition follows previous events in Las Vegas and Sacramento.
