Vinzenz Geiger topped an all-German podium at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Combined World Cup in Klingenthal.

Geiger, Fabian Rießle and Eric Frenzel all utilised their home advantage to finish with medals.

Japan's Ryōta Yamamoto had been the best in the ski jump, winning the round with 141.5 metres and 145.6 points.

Geiger had scored 127.2 in the jumping round and started the 10 kilometre race one minute and 14 seconds behind Yamamoto.

Yamamoto led for the first 4km but was then caught by a group including Rießle, Geiger and Frenzel.

Geiger launched his attack at the 8km mark, surging away from the group and crossing the finish line in 24mins 59.6secs.

Rießle and Frenzel followed in 25:03.1 and 25:03.2 respectively, with the pair holding off the challenge from Ilkka Herola.

Yamamoto slipped down to ninth place.

Geiger's victory helped him gain on Norway's Jarl Magnus Riiber in the World Cup standings.

Riiber, who decided to skip this weekend's event to focus on preparations for the World Championships later this month, leads on 940 points.

Geiger is second on 554 and Akito Watabe of Japan is third on 528.

Klingenthal will host a second FIS Nordic Combined World Cup contest tomorrow.
