Olympic marathon gold medallist Eliud Kipchoge has followed in the footsteps of basketball great Michael Jordan and football star Christian Ronaldo by launching his own Nike clothing line.

The 36-year-old long-distance runner has launched the Nike EK-line, which includes shoes such as the Alpha-Fly and the Pegasus as well as other running apparel.

The line is said to be inspired by Kipchoge’s achievements in athletics as well as embodying his Kenyan roots and his "No Human is Limited" mantra.

"It is a long time now since I started running, and while my runs have changed, I’ve always experienced the same joy," said Kipchoge.

"I’m incredibly proud to represent Kenya around the clock and with this collection from Nike Running and myself, people can now wear the flag all around the world.

"That’s how people can become one."

Kipchoge holds the marathon world record of 2hrs 01min and 39sec, set at the 2018 Berlin Marathon.

He has won bronze at Athens 2004 and silver at Beijing 2008 in the 5,000m before clinching marathon gold at Rio 2016.

In October 2019, Kipchoge became the first person in history to break the two-hour marathon barrier during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge.

The Kenyan, together with 40 world-class pacemakers, crossed the finish line after 1:59:40.

He also won gold in the 5,000m at the 2003 World Championships.

Speaking last September, Kipchoge said he was hopeful of competing at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, postponed to this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
