The 2021 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 World Tour is scheduled to start in Doha in Qatar in March, just three months after Latvian team Riga won their first title.

Scheduled to take place on March 26 and 27, it is set to be the 10th edition of the World Tour.

It will be the second year in a row that the World Tour travels to Doha at the outdoor Al Gharafa Sports Complex, hosted by the Qatar Basketball Federation with the support of the Qatar Olympic Committee.

Health and safety guidelines requested by local and national authorities were implemented for the 2020 FIBA 3x3 World Tour along with FIBA's Guidelines for the Return to Basketball, as developed by the FIBA Medical Advisory Group due to the coronavirus pandemic.

These guidelines are set to return for the 2021 World Tour, which will have added significance as the sport is due to make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

A decision has not been made yet on whether spectators will be allowed at the venue, with this currently being assessed.

A total of 14 teams are expected to compete in the World Tour opener, including the top eight teams in the FIBA 3x3 team rankings, as of this coming Monday (February 15) and the hosts.

Currently, the top eight are: Liman and Novi Sad of Serbia, Riga of Latvia, NY Harlem and Princeton of the United States, Sakiai of Lithuania, Piran of Slovenia and Edmonton of Canada.

More Masters events are set to be announced in future.

Riga won their first FIBA 3x3 World Tour title after a thrilling final against Liman in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in December.

A last-gasp two-point shot with just a few seconds to go sealed a victory for the Latvians in a back-and-forth tie.
