Norway clinched back-to-back cross-country relay titles as they extended their lead at the top of the medals table at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Vuokatti.

The first came in the men’s junior 4x5 kilometres relay competition, which saw Martin Kirkeberg Mørk secure his second gold in the Finnish resort.

Kirkeberg Mørk, who won the 10km freestyle yesterday, teamed up with Edvard Sandvik, Jonas Vika and Lars Agnar Hjelmeset to win the relay race in 49min 45.3sec.

While Norway ran out comfortable winners, the fight for the remaining podium spots was intense with Germany, Finland, Italy and Russia all in the mix.

The Finnish team, comprising Niilo Moilanen, Niko Anttola, Eemil Helander and Alexander Ståhlberg, eventually pulled away to take silver in 50:05.3.

Fabio Longo, Alessandro Chiocchetti, Luca Sclisizzo and Elia Barp followed as Italy edged out Russia by just 0.1sec to secure bronze in 50:07.9.

Norway then collected their sixth gold medal of the World Championships after winning the mixed under-23 4x5km relay.

Synne Arnesen, Jon Rolf Skamo Hope, Håvard Moseby and Hedda Østberg Amundsen defended the title for Norway in a time of 52:52.9.

The silver medal went to the Russian team of Anastasiya Faleeva, Sergey Ardashev, Alexander Terentev and Anna Grukhvina in 52:56.8.

Hanna Abrahamasson, Fredrik Andersson, Johan Herbert and Louise Lindström steered Sweden to a hard-fought bronze in 53:00.6 as they saw off the challenge of France.

Earlier in the day, Sweden picked up their first gold medal of the Championships courtesy of a victory in the women’s junior 4x3.3km relay.

Märta Rosenberg, Lisa Eriksson, Lisa Ingesson and Moa Hansson triumphed for Sweden in 37:50.8 after overcoming Russia.

Anna Kozhinova, Evgeniya Krupitskaya, Olga Zholudeva and Veronika Stepanova had to settle for silver in 37:50.8.

Third place went to Norway, whose medal count now stands at 13 after Maria Hartz Melling, Emma Kirkeberg Mørk, Anna Heggen and Margrethe Bergane came home in 38:16.9.

The action is due to conclude tomorrow with the men’s and women’s junior mass start classical competitions.
