Organisers of the 2023 Summer World University Games in Yekaterinburg plan to launch their volunteer programme in August.

Yekaterinburg 2023 said the volunteer scheme would start on August 8 to coincide with two years to go until the Opening Ceremony of the event.

Exact details of the programme are due to be released by organisers soon, the university added.

It is being established by the Ural Federal University and the Yekaterinburg 2023 Organising Committee.

More than 500,000 people have applied to be a volunteer at this year's Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China.

Volunteers are a vital part of any multi-sport event, working in areas including accreditation, accommodation, hospitality and venues.

Yekaterinburg 2023 has not yet revealed how many volunteers it will need to help its hosting of the Games in two years' time.

The Russian city was awarded the event by the International University Sports Federation in July 2019.

Russia will host the University Games in the summer for the second time, following Kazan's hosting of the Summer Universiade in 2013.

Moscow hosted the Summer Universiade in 1973 when it was part of the Soviet Union.
