Collin Morikawa shot a three-under-par 69 to win the World Golf Championships (WGC)-Workday Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Florida by three shots, on a day where countless players tipped their caps to Tiger Woods.

After a bogey on the second hole, overnight leader Morikawa did not drop another shot en route to victory and was 18 under par after four rounds of golf.

Norwegian Viktor Hovland shot 67 - the second-best round of the day - but scuppered his chances with two bogeys in the last five holes to finish three strokes behind Morikawa in a tie for second place.

Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel, like Morikawa Americans, each shot 70 to share second place with Hovland.

The United States' Scottie Scheffler was alone at 14 under, while Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy - who was chasing a WGC grand slam having previously won the other three tournaments in this series - made four bogeys in an underwhelming 71 to finish two further shots back, tied for sixth with South African Louis Oosthuizen.

McIlroy was among a host of players wearing Woods' trademark Sunday look of a red shirt and black trousers in honour of the 15-time major champion.

Scheffler, Australia's Jason Day and Woods' Ryder Cup team mates Tony Finau, Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed - the defending champion - all joined McIlroy in red.

Woods suffered multiple leg fractures in a car crash last Tuesday (February 23).

Fittingly, Morikawa's victory means he joins Woods as the only player to have won a WGC event and a major before the age of 25.

Morikawa, who turned 24 earlier this month, won the Professional Golfers' Association of America Championship in 2020 and now has four PGA Tour victories to his name.

"Tiger means everything to me," Morikawa said after the final round.

"Yes he had the crash and thankfully he's alright and hopefully he has a quick and great recovery, but I don't think we say thank you enough.

"So I want to say thank you to Tiger."

The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, the next tournament in the series, is due to begin on March 25 at Austin Country Club in Texas.
