India’s Ramit Tandon will face defending champion Fares Dessouky at the CIB Professional Squash Association (PSA) Black Ball Squash Open after winning his first round match in Cairo.

Dessouky, who won the 2020 event in December, was among the top seeds granted byes through the first round of the men’s event.

The Egyptian awaited the winner of the match between Tandon and Scotland’s Greg Lobban at the Black Ball Sporting Club.

Lobban claimed the opening game of the match, but was unable to prevent Tandon fighting back to win 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.

Tandon will face tournament seventh seed Dessouky in the second round tomorrow.

Egypt’s Mohamed El Sherbini, the cousin of newly crowned women’s champion Nour, also came through his first round match.

He came from a game down to beat France’s Benjamin Aubert 8-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9.

El Sherbini’s reward will be a match against France’s Mathieu Castagnet.

Castagnet enjoyed a straight games 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 win over India’s Masesh Mangaonkar in his first round match.

Ali Farag is the tournament top seed with the Egyptian set to face compatriot Mohamed Abouelghar tomorrow.

Second seed Mohamed ElShorbagy, also of Egypt, is due to play his second round match on Sunday (March 21).

He will meet France’s Baptiste Masotti who beat India’s Vikram Malhotra 11-4, 11-3, 11-4.
