Irish pair Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove lead the race for the final European place at Tokyo 2020 at the Lanzarote International Regatta.

Dickson and Waddilove sit in third place overall on 31 points, after a day of mixed fortunes.

The Irish pair claimed two wins but also a UFD or over the start line early, which impacted their score.

Dickson and Waddilove of Ireland have a 25 point lead over Yannick Lefebvre and Tom Pelsmaekers of Belgium, who sit ninth in the overall standings with 56 points.

Spain’s Diego Botin Le Chever and Iago Lopez Marra won three races today to take the lead in the class overall with 18 points.

In the women’s 49er FX, the race for the final European qualification place at Tokyo 2020 is led by Enia Nincevic and Mihaela Zjena of Croatia.


Nincevic and Zjena sit seventh overall with 42 points, and hold a two point advantage over Belgian pair Isaura Maenhaut and Anouk Geurts who sit on 44.

In the overall race, Brazilian pair Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze lead with 25 points.

In the men’s Nacra 17 category, Sinem Kurtbay and Janne Jarvine of Finland lead the race for the final place at Tokyo 2020.

The pair secured a best result on the day of third to move into sixth place overall with 60 points.

Four points behind are Greece’s Iordanis Paschalidis and Myrto Papadopoulou with 64 points, who sit in seventh place overall.

Leading the race overall are Spanish pairing Tara Pacheco and Florian Trittel on 26 points, whose best result of the day was a win in the day’s middle race.
