Russia won 15-10, with the result enough to see them move from sixth to third in the standings and secure their Super Final berth.

The Netherlands knew if they secured the win it would be enough for them to reach the Super Final, however it was Russia who took control early on and kept their opponents at bay.

Russia scored three unanswered goals in the second period to open up a four-goal lead at 6-2.

The Netherlands reduced the gap to two goals twice but the crucial moments came late in the third period when Catharina van der Sloot had a penalty saved by Anna Karnaukh in the Russian goal, which would have made it 9-7 if it had been scored.

In the next possession Nataliya Churzina scored to make it 10-6, a deficit the Dutch were not able to overturn.

Hosts Hungary, who had already qualified for the Super Final prior to the event, and participated with a university team finished top of the standings with 16 points.

Spain finished second in the standings with 14 points, while Russia and Greece, who both ended with nine points, finished third and fourth respectively, to secure the remaining Super Final spots.

The Netherlands missed out along with Italy and France, who did not travel to the qualification event because of travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

A date and location for the women’s World League Super Final has yet to be arranged, which as well as the four European nations will also feature Canada, Japan, Kazakhstan and the United States.
