The Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sport Association (VIRESA) has confirmed the esports titles that will feature at this year’s Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

A total of 10 esports competitions are set to be held in Vietnam - four more than what was on the programme when the sport made its debut at the 2019 Games in the Philippines.

Among the events is a League of Legends tournament on the PC as well as men’s and women’s Wild Rift competitions on mobile.

Other mobile tournaments include Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor and Free Fire, and individual and team contests in PUBG Mobile.

FIFA Online 4 is set to feature on the PC along with CrossFire.

The National Convention Center in Hanoi is due to play host to the esports competitions.

"In recent years, Vietnam has successfully organised many international esports events, and at the same time many strong athletes and teams have achieved high achievements in regional and international tournaments," a statement from VIRESA read.

"The SEA Games is a good opportunity for Vietnam esports to assert its position."

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Starcraft II, Tekken 7 and Hearthstone featured on the programme at the 2019 SEA Games with the host nation Philippines topping the medals table with three golds, one silver and one bronze.

Last September, gaming brand Razer lobbied for esports' inclusion at the 2021 SEA Games after organisers initially removed it from the programme due to budget constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 11 nations are set to compete in 40 sports at this year’s SEA Games, scheduled to run from November 21 to December 2.
