Two-time World Championships medallist Maayan Davidovich of Israel has been appointed President of a new International Federation governing the sailing discipline of wing foil.

Davidovich, a windsurfer who represented her country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, was chosen for the role during the inaugural meeting of the International Wing Sports Association (IWSA).

Members of the IWSA, who have been working for the past 12 months to form a new global governing body, also selected its first interim Executive Committee at the meeting.

German Stand Up Paddle Association chairman Phil Mandeau has been appointed vice-chairman.

Gunnar Biniasch of Germany, American Nils Stolzlechner, Australia's youth sailing coordinator Ryan Palk and the President of the Italian Kiteboarding and Wingsport Association Mirco Babini have also been selected to serve on the ruling body.

Germany's Markus Schwendtner is in charge of the day-to-day running of the IWSA, which says it has applied to World Sailing to be formally recognised as an international class.

The interim Executive Committee will lead the IWSA through the first international competition season and retire at the next AGM, when the members will be called to elect a new Executive Committee.

The IWSA is planning to hold its first events in Italy in July.

According to the IWSA, wing foil is a "crossover between windsurfing, kiteboarding, sailing and standup paddling".
