Andrey Bochkarev, deputy mayor of Moscow responsible for urban development policy and construction project, gave an update on progress of the facility.

"By the end of the year, we plan to commission the unique martial arts palace," said Bochkarev.

"Symmetrical sports facilities - the sambo centre and boxing centre - are united by a common facade.

"Each centre will function independently of the other, the flows of visitors do not intersect."

Once built, the centre is expected to be able to hold up to 3,600 people and provide underground parking.

The main features of the facility are the mirror ceiling and stained-glass glazing which will allow people to see bouts taking place from the street outside.

Bochkarev said the installation of monolithic structures of the building was "78 per cent" complete, while construction of brick partitions "are in progress".

"At the beginning of April, the floor slab of the training hall on the fifth floor will be poured in the room of which an inclined mirrored ceiling will be installed," said Bochkarev.

"After that, we will proceed with the installation of 18-metre stained-glass racks, and then with the installation of stained-glass windows."

The seven-storey complex is expected to correspond to the requirements of the International Boxing Association and International Sambo Federation.

"The builders have begun assembling the metal structures of the sixth floor of the boxing block in the building," Rafik Zagrutdinov, head of the Moscow Construction Department, told Russia’s official state news agency TASS.

"The assembly of the sixth and seventh floors continues in the sambo block.

"These works will be completed within a month, which will allow to start roofing works."
