Five teams remain unbeaten with victories from their opening three matches following a busy day of action at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship.

All teams played two group games across five sheets during four sessions at Aberdeen in Scotland, with Canada, Czech Republic, hosts Scotland, defending champions Sweden and the United States remaining unbeaten following the day’s play.

In Group A Canada, Czech Republic and Scotland all boast three wins from as many games.

Hosts Scotland beat Australia 9-5 and Spain 9-1, while Canada beat Germany 9-6 and Hungary 7-5, and Czech Republic beat the Russian Curling Federation 5-2 and Korea 7-5.

Elsewhere in the first session of the day for Group A teams Italy overcame Spain 7-2 and Hungary edged out Korea 5-4.

The other matches in the second session of the day for Group A saw Italy narrowly beat Australia 7-6 and Germany run out convincing 7-1 winners against the Russian Curling Federation.

Behind the three unbeaten teams in the standings are Germany and Italy both with two wins and one loss, followed by Hungary and Korea with one win and two defeats.

Australia, Spain and the Russian Curling Federation have yet to score a win.

In Group B Sweden and the United States both maintained their unbeaten records with two more victories today.

The United States recorded two wins by one shot, as they beat Japan 7-6 and later Estonia 6-5, with Sweden defeating Estonia 9-6 followed by Norway 10-5.

Only one unbeaten record will remain in Group B following the first session of play in that group tomorrow, as Sweden and the United States are scheduled to meet on Sheet D at 12.30pm BST.

Elsewhere in today’s first session of Group B action New Zealand edged out England 7-6 in an extra end, Norway beat Finland 8-4 and China defeated Switzerland 8-6, in another contest that required an extra end.

Other matches in the day’s second session in the group saw England beat China 9-4, Switzerland overcome New Zealand 5-3 and Japan defeat Finland 8-3.

Behind the two unbeaten teams in the group come Norway and Switzerland with two wins and one defeat.

China, England, Estonia, Japan and New Zealand all follow with one win and two defeats with Finland bottom as the only team in the group to secure a win.

Two more sessions are scheduled in each group tomorrow, with each team set to play two further matches.
