The Asian Games 10 Cities Tour started in Shanghai this week ©Hangzhou 2022

A 10-city fun run series celebrating the upcoming Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games has got underway in Shanghai. 

The event, the first stop of the Asian Games 10 Cities Tour, featured a promotional lecture on the Asian Games at a local university, a performance of Asian Games-themed songs and music, a fun run in the event and a light show during the race.

Hangzhou singer Lu Wei and retired three-time Asian Games swimming champion Wu Peng were among the participants at the event, held in association with Games sponsor sponsor Geely Auto.

Song Luzeng, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) vice-president and chairman of the OCA Sports Committee, Asian Games Organising Committee deputy secretary general and vice Mayor Chen Weiqiang and Mao Genhong, deputy secretary general of Hangzhou 2022 and of the Hangzhou Municipal Government were all in attendance.

Chen opened the event with an address, explaining the opportunities and challenges of the upcoming Asian Games to students on the Songjian campus of the Shanghai International Studies University, calling it important to use the event for social and economic development.

OCA vice-president Song started off the music and fun run event by reading out a message from the OCA President Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah.

Those participating in the fun run wore Asian Games t-shirts and received certificates and souvenirs from Hangzhou 2022 and the OCA.

The Asian Games 10 Cities Tour is set to also visit Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an, Chengdu, Tianjin, Nanjing and Xiamen.

Hangzhou is set to be the third Chinese host of the Asian Games, following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.

The Asian Games are set to take place from September 10 to 25 2022.
