Hungary’s men and Italy’s women topped their pools on the second day of the International Basketball Federation 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Debrecen.

After the hosts women’s team topped their pool on day one Hungary’s men were in action on day two as Pool B played out.

The hosts, seeded third, topped the pool by beating sixth seeds Romania 21-16 and following it by defeating second seeds Mongolia 21-8.

In the other match Mongolia beat Romania 22-9 to ensure second place in the pool.

Hungary advance straight to the semi-finals after topping their pool with Mongolia and Romania moving on to the quarter-finals.

The men’s quarter-finals sees just two games with Mongolia taking on fourth seeds Ukraine and Romania up against the top seeds in Slovenia.

Belgium and Hungary will be awaiting the winners of those matches in the semi-finals.

In women’s Pool A top seeds Italy justified that seeding by topping the pool with a comfortable 21-11 win over fifth seeds Chinese Taipei, followed by a convincing 21-5 victory over Iran, seeded four.

Italy advance straight to the semi-finals, while Chinese Taipei and Iran go through to the quarter-finals.

Chinese Taipei beat Iran 16-10 in the pool’s other match to secure second place in the group.

In the quarter-finals the two matches see Iran up against second seeds The Netherlands and Chinese Taipei taking on Estonia, who are seeded sixth.

Italy and Hungary will be awaiting the winners of those games in the semi-finals.

Only the winners of the men’s and women’s competitions at the Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament will secure a place at Tokyo 2020, where the sport is set to make its debut.
