The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is arranging a training camp for athletes from Africa, Asia and the Americas, after the governing body received several requests from National Federations to facilitate international practice opportunities.

Requests were made due to ongoing restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the difficulty some countries are having in preparing for events such as the Olympic Games.

Nations will now be able to attend a training camp, held in Khabarovsk in Russia, from July 3 to 23.

The boxing tournament at Tokyo 2020 - which AIBA is not organising - starts on July 24.

"We would like to support all Federations, and first of all our athletes and coaches to be fully prepared for every competition," said AIBA President Umar Kremlev.

"Our main task is to help them to compete at the highest level.

"Because of that, we are going to organise the training camps and to provide full support for our boxers."

The Konstantin Korotkov Memorial international boxing tournament was held in Khabarovsk in May.

Facilities are therefore in place to stage the training camp, AIBA said, including implementing the necessary COVID-19 countermeasures.

Entry requirements to Russia are currently relaxed, with teams set to be able to enter the country without having to quarantine, which was cited as another reason for Khabarovsk being an ideal destination.
