A strong run leg saw the American overtake the Brazilian and claim the win.

Zachary Stinson was a comfortable third.

American Kendall Gretsch, a biathlon and cross-country skiing Paralympic champion, won by almost three minutes in the women's wheelchair race, recording the fastest splits on every leg of the race to finish in 1:09:14.

Brazil's Jessica Ferreira claimed the silver ahead of Brenda Osnaya Alvarez of Mexico.

Brad Snyder led an all-American podium in the men's visually-impaired event, winning in 1:01:43 ahead of Kyle Coon and Aaron Scheidies; while Canadian Jessica Tuomela held off two Americans in the women's race to win in a time of 1:13:53.

Elizabeth Baker and Amy Dixon were second and third.

In the men's PTS2, Adam Popp of the US claimed gold in 1:15:51, while American Hailey Danz won the women's equivalent in 1:14.35 ahead of compatriots Allysa Seely and Melissa Stockwell.

Eric Mcelvenny claimed the gold medal in the men's PTS4 by just eight seconds in a thrilling finale with American teammate Jamie Brown, clocking a time of 1:05:37.

Mcelvenny led the field on the swim, before an incredible bike leg put Brown a minute in front.

On the run, Mcelvenny pulled it out the bag to win the gold; while Jorge Luis Fonseca was more than two minutes behind the pair for the bronze.

In the women's PTS4, Kelly Elmlinger won another gold for the US in a time of 1:16:18 ahead of team mate Kelly Worrell.

Canada's Stefan Daniel led the only podium of the day represented by three different nations, with a win in the men's PTS5.

His winning time of 57min 56sec was nearly two minutes ahead of the US' Chris Hammer, while young Brazilian Carlos Rafael Viana was a further minute back.

Finally, in the women's race, America's Grace Norman won the gold in 1:04.48 ahead of Kamylle Frenette of Canada.
