World champions Italy and Montenegro won their respective groups with 100 per cent records at the Men’s Water Polo World League Super Final in Georgian capital Tbilisi.

The two sides, among the favourites for the title coming into the tournament, claimed victory in their last group matches at Tbilisi Olympic Pool.

Italy defeated France 14-7 in an intriguing contest in Group A, while Montenegro came from behind to beat Japan 16-8 in Group B.

Greece and the United States finished second in Group A and B, respectively, after earning their second wins of the competition.

Greece ended with a 14-9 victory over Kazakhstan and the US despatched Georgia 13-9.

All eight teams qualified for the quarter-finals, with the round-robin phased used to determine who plays who in the next round.

Italy will take on Japan, Montenegro go up against Kazakhstan, Greece face Georgia and the US face France when the quarter-finals take place tomorrow.

"From tomorrow we start the World League," said Italy head coach Sandro Campagna.

"It will be an important game against Japan, as they increase from game to game. 

"Today it was important for the concentration. 

"This was a training game and I was happy with the way we played."
