More than 100 people took part in a social media webinar run by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), which had a Brazilian flavour.

Manoela Penna, the communications and marketing director at the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), presented a case study on social media activation within the COB.

She explained how the organisation have modernised their communication structures while taking a more "aggressive" approach to social media.

This includes the creation of the Brazilian Olympic Channel, with the new way of doing things helping to garner two million social media followers and 10 new marketing partners.

Penna also discussed the COB's particular social media strategy for the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which are due to open on July 23, before taking questions.

National Olympic Committees (NOCs) from around the world attended the webinar, which aimed to allow the exchange of ideas and best practice as Tokyo 2020 approaches.

ANOC has launched a number of initiatives to improve the social media performance of NOCs, including a dedicated dashboard and handbook.

Strong social media use can help an NOC promote their organisation and gain sponsors, while sharing the positive message of sport.

However, smaller NOCs often struggle with issues such as content creation and a lack of resources.
