Two athletes who competed at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games are among 38 to benefit from one-off grants from the Team Scotland Youth Trust (TSYT).

The TSYT is giving athletes up to £1,000 ($1,385/€1,165) from its Return to Sport Fund to aid their resumption of training and competition.

The money is designed to contribute towards additional costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wrestler Ross Connelly took part in the men's under-57-kilogram freestyle at the 2018 Games, being beaten by Sri Lanka Divoshan Charles Fernando in the opening round.

Artistic gymnast Shannon Archer - 10th in the individual all-around final and fifth on the vault - is the other athlete who competed at Gold Coast 2018 to benefit from this round of funding awards.

Long jumper Calum Henderson, who represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas in 2017, is included as well.

Athletes from 17 sports in all will benefit - aquatics, athletics, badminton, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, judo, netball, rugby sevens, squash, table tennis, shooting, triathlon, volleyball wrestling, and weightlifting.

"Due to the financial impact the pandemic had on businesses, I lost the support of two sponsors," Connelly said.

"This award will assist greatly in allowing me to return to international training camps and competitions and working towards Birmingham 2022."
