Hong Kong will be represented by a 64-member delegation at next month’s Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, it has been announced.

The Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled said the delegation will include 24 athletes.

The athletes will compete in eight sports, including archery, athletics, boccia and equestrian.

Hong Kong will also be represented in swimming, table tennis, wheelchair fencing and badminton, with the latter appearing at the Paralympic Games for the first time.

Half of the athletes will make their first appearance in the Games.

The team is supported by 40 coaches, sports science and medical officials, delegation officials and National Paralympic Committee representatives.

Hong Kong’s Paralympic team will have a three-day simulation training camp prior to departure.

The camp will take place from July 30 to August 1 at the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

The camp is expected to simulate the COVID-19 countermeasures that will be put in place at the Games.

Hong Kong was represented by a team of 24 athletes at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The nation won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Games,

Hong Kong will participate at their 13th Paralympic Games at Tokyo 2020, having debuted back in 1972.

Hong Kong has won 40 gold, 37 silver and 49 bronze medals to date.
