Marcela Vašínová of the Czech Republic and Poland's Peter Fraňo were the winners on the fourth leg of the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) Mountain Running World Cup, triumphing on the mammoth Tatra SkyMarathon in Kościelisko.

Over the 40-kilometre route, Vašínová was more than 10 minutes clear in the women's race, finishing in 5 hours 2min 8sec in front of the home favourite, Poland's Katarzyna Solińska.

Solińska had a gap of more than eight minutes behind her to Britain's Charlotte Morgan who faded in the second half of the race, however, she had enough to win the bronze medal ahead of Katarzyna Wilik of Poland by nearly two minutes.

In fifth was Hungarian Iren Tiricz in front of Poland's Sylwia Jabłońska and Italian Nicola Paris in sixth and seventh.

Fraňo ensured there was a home win in the men's race, finishing more than four minutes ahead of his closest challenger in a time of 4:30:18.

Andrzej Witek made it a one-two for the hosts, finishing five minutes in front of Spain's Raúl Criado Sánchez, who paid the price for a fast start by falling back into the bronze medal position.

Miroslav Hraško of Slovakia was a further two minutes back in fourth, ahead of a swarm of Polish runners led by Kamil Leśniak in fifth.

The fifth stage of the WMRA Mountain Running World Cup is set to take place in Zinal in Switzerland and is a long mountain category race.
