More than 5 million votes were cast in the five days the public had to chose their favourite songs for the Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games.

Organisers report that in excess of 5 million votes were cast in the competition to decide official songs for the multi-sport event.

A certificate and souvenir will be given to the artists who wrote the top 100 songs by the popular vote.

A Chengdu 2021 panel will then select a winning 20, taking into account both the public vote - which was conducted online - and the views of music experts.

Songs obtained from other channels may also join this process, as Chengdu 2021 selects a playlist of promotional songs for the next Summer World University Games.

Submissions which demonstrate the spirit of student-athletes, reflect Chengdu's heritage and stimulate global participation will do well, according to organisers.

In all, 2,723 works were submitted.

Voters could listen on the Chengdu 2021 website and QQ Music, a Chinese streaming service.

June 26 to July 7 in 2022 is the new window for Chengdu 2021 - which retains the same name - following its postponement to next year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
