The United States claimed a thrilling victory in the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Klaipeda Stop in Lithuania to win its first tournament in nine appearances.

The US claimed the triumph in a nail-biting 19-17 overtime win against Spain on July 31.

Valencian Sandra Ygueravide put Spain one point into the lead with 36 seconds left but a foul gave the USA the chance to equalise with nine seconds to go.

Cierra Burdick calmly converted to send the game into overtime, where the first team to score two points would be champions.

Burdick and Breanna Marquice Richardson of America scored two quick points to give the US its first-ever title in the Women's series after seven appearances.

The victors thoroughly deserved their success as they had a 100 per cent win rate and also scored the most points -- averaging 18.8 per game -- in the competition.

Burdick, who won the 2014 World Championship, was instrumental in the final, recording the most points and rebounds with eight and seven respectively.

The US' success throughout the tournament, however, was down to their strength in depth.

Three of their players ranked in the top five in the scoring charts, with Linnae Harper and Alexis Peterson joining Burdick.

Harper was named Most Valuable Player after pipping Spain's Irati Etxarri Munarriz in the player value charts.

For the first time, the team was not composed of college players, with an average age of 26.

The conclusion of the tournament saw Spain take lead in the overall season standings with 274 points in four events, ahead of France and Russia with 200 points each.

The US jumped up to ninth place on 100 points, although it was its first event of the season.

The victory in Klaipeda caps off an amazing week for the US in women's 3x3, after the country also won the gold medal at Tokyo 2020.

Team USA defeated the ROC team 18-15 to win the first ever Olympic Women's 3x3 basketball gold.

The next event in the series will take place in Constanța in Romania from August 14 to 15.
