German club Taekwondo Axel Müller eV is one of 50 clubs this year to be given the Green Belt award and a grant from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) for its performances over the past 12 months.

DOSB and major bank Commerzbank delivered another year of grants for these community clubs, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The taekwondo club from the Westerwald were one of the 50 to be approved by a jury panel and were rewarded with a cash boost of €5,000 (£4,200/$5.900).

This funding will allow clubs to continue their successful projects, as well as initiate new ones.

Taekwondo Axel Müller eV is one of the top clubs in the sport in Germany and has produced a number of national team athletes and medallists at National and European Championships.

"I've been active in competitive sports for years and I've wanted to win this special award since the club was founded 25 years ago," said taekwondo coach Axel Müller.

"I am delighted that all of our merits are recognised at this point and recognised with this award.

"I would like to thank my athletes and everyone who contributed to making my personal dream come true and thus our motivation to keep developing, has been given a new foundation."

This is an annual initiative from DOSB and Commerzbank, rewarding clubs across a variety of sports in Germany.
