The men’s final at the Professional Squash Association Manchester Open will pit the third and fourth seeds against each other, after top seed Marwan ElShorbagy was eliminated in straight games in the last four today.

Egyptian ElShorbagy lost 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 to third seed Diego Elias of Peru, with the world number eight extending his winning run against ElShorbagy to six successive matches.

Elias will now face Joel Makin of Wales, the fourth seed, in the final at the National Squash Centre in Manchester.

Makin was involved in a thrilling battle that went the distance with Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim, who earlier this week knocked out compatriot and second seed at the event Karim Abdel Gawad.

Makin came from two games to one down as he prevailed 11-6, 7-11, 3-11, 11-4, 12-10 in 81 minutes.

The women’s final will see the top two seeds go head-to-head after top seed Hania El Hammamy of Egypt and second seed Sarah-Jane Perry of England negotiated their respective paths through the draw.

El Hammamy today defeated Wales Emily Whitlock 11-5, 14-12, 11-1, before Perry came from a game down to overhaul third seed Tesni Evans of Wales 8-11, 11-5, 14-12, 11-9 in an hour.

El Hammamy and Perry will be repeating their rivalry from the final of the 2019 CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open, where Perry came from two games down to take the title.
