Norway’s pair of Anders Berntsen Mol and Christian Sandlie Sørum won their fourth successive men’s EuroBeachVolley title in Vienna today after beating Stefan Boermans and Yorick De Groot in three sets.

The victory for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions also makes them the first pairing to win four successive continental tournaments.

On the final day of action at the Red Bull Beach Arena, Mol and Sørum started by beating Dutch pairing Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen 17-21, 21-17, 15-13 in the first semi-final.

Following their victory, the Norwegians knew more Dutch opposition awaited in the final, after Boermans and De Groot overcame Poland’s Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak 21-19, 21-10 in the second semi-final.

Mol and Sørum were pushed all by the way by Boermans and De Groot as they extended their winning run in the tournament to 26 matches, triumphing 21-19, 24-26, 15-12 in the final.

Speaking after the match Sørum said: “The Dutch played amazing, it was a perfect final, we had to work really hard to find a way to beat them.

“We had one goal before this tournament and it was to win this title, but to win four in a row, it’s hard to believe.

“We’re really happy we’re going home with another victory here in Vienna, which is like home for us.

“It’s always fantastic to play in front of these fans.”

Kantor and Losiak claimed the bronze medals with a 21-19, 21-14 victory over Brouwer and Meeuwsen.

Yesterday, the women’s EuroBeachVolley crown was won by Swiss pairing Nina Betschart and Tanja Hüberli.
