Hosts Russia had a stellar day the United World Wrestling (UWW) Junior World Championships in Ufa, winning three of the first five Greco-Roman gold medals awarded.

All three of the home athletes who qualified for today's finals were victorious.

Islam Aliev beat Norwegian Exauce Mukubu 8-0 in the under-77-kilogram final, while Said Bukaev was a 10-0 victor in the 63kg gold-medal match versus Georgian Diego Chkhikvadze, each triumphing via technical superiority.

At 87kg, Adlan Amriev defeated Dutchman Tyron Sterkenburg 5-1.

Iran's Amirreza Dehbozorgi overcame Uzbekistan's Alimardon Abdullaev 3-1 in the lightest category, 55kg, to win the gold medal, while in the heaviest, 130kg, Turkey's Muhammet Bakir beat Sarkhan Mammadov from Azerbaijan by the same scoreline in their final.

Russia have 75 points in the team Greco-Roman standings and have a 20-point lead over Iran, who also picked up two bronze medals today.

With three of tomorrow's five finals also featuring Russian athletes, the host nation is in pole position to claim the team crown after missing out on both men's and women's freestyle titles.

The UWW Junior World Championships is an event for athletes aged between 18 and 20.
