A study conducted by the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) has revealed the benefits of a successful first serve in the doubles format of the sport.

The research, carried out by data experts in the FITEQ education team, found the serving player wins 55.6 per cent of the rallies in doubles and loses 37.7 per cent.

FITEQ said when players execute a lower risk second service, the server "only wins 43.8 per cent of rallies on the second service, losing 48.2 per cent".

"While not exhaustive, and with further data collection and analysis planned in the coming months, the study clearly shows that serving is an advantage when players execute their first service successfully," FITEQ said.

"However, when the first service is unsuccessful, the serving player is more likely to lose the point than win it."

The analysis was based on 30 matches and 1,427 rallies across seven competitions, which were held between May 20 and July 30 of this year.

The tournaments took place in Cape Verde, Hungary, Italy and Poland.

FITEQ said the study, which comes after similar research on the impact of serving in the singles discipline, "will help inform athletes, coaches and National Federations as they look to continue drawing upon data to develop their elite level players".
