The Russian Federation won seven gold medals on home soil in the finals of the World Military Boxing Championships, held at the VTB-Arena in Moscow.

In the women’s events, the Russian Federation claimed three golds with the first coming in the under-51 kilograms category as world champion Ekaterina Paltseva beat Italy’s Giordana Sorrentino.

There was further success for the nation in the under-57kg category as European champion Daria Abramova overcame Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag of Mongolia.

The Russian Federation’s third female champion was Saadat Dalgatova who beat Barbara Maria Don Santos of Brazil in the under-69kg category.

Elsewhere in the women’s finals world champion Beatriz Soares Ferreira of Brazil overcame Krisandi Rios Ojeda of Venezuela to win the under-60kg category, while Mavluda Mavlonova of Uzbekistan defeated Belarusian Viktoria Kebikova in the under-75kg category.

In the men’s finals, the Russian Federation claimed four of the ten titles on offer, with the first of these coming in the under-52kg category as Dmitrii Dvali beat Kazakhstan’s Damir Abdikadir.   

In the under-56kg category Ovik Ogannisian claimed another gold for the hosts when he beat Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu of Mongolia.

A third men’s gold came for the Russian Federation in the under-69kg category with Ivan Stupin beating Christian Palacio Medina of Venezuela.

The final men’s gold of the night for the Russian Federation came in the under-81kg category, as Radzhab Radzhabov overcame Mohammed Houmr of Algeria.

Kazakhstan claimed three golds in the men’s categories with the first of these coming in the under-49kg as Temirtas Zhussupov beat Leanderso Sa Dos Conceicao of Brazil.

The nation’s second gold came in the under-75kg category with Timur Nurseitov beating Aleksei Semykin of Russia, before Abdal Kuttybekov defeated Russia’s Ivan Sagaidak to win the under-91kg category.

Uzbekistan claimed two golds in the men’s events with Shunkor Abdurasulov winning the under-60kg category by defeating Russia's Konstantin Opolskii, and Lazizbek Mullojonov triumphing in the over-91kg category by beating Russia’s Svetoslav Teterin.

The remaining category, the under-64kg, went to Dmitry Asanau of Belarus, who beat Mujibillo Tursunov of Uzbekistan.

In total, 231 boxers from 36 countries participated in the tournament, which President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Colonel Hervé Piccirillo described as a successful event.

"’Friendship through sport’ is not just a motto but a way of considering our involvement as members of the Armed Forces to develop peace and stability in the world," said Piccirillo.

"In this regard, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and respect to the Russian delegation, International Boxing Association (AIBA), Russian Boxing Federation (RBF) and the officials of both federations for the organisation and the management of the 58th World Military Boxing Championship.

"The level of professionalism and involvement needed to organise such an event is without any doubt extremely high.

"Consequently, I would like to thank AIBA and RBF for their work and I sincerely hope that the collaboration between AIBA, RBF and CISM will remain as productive as it is now for many years to come."

The Russian Federation won the team classification thanks to a medal haul of seven golds, four silvers and four bronzes.
