Australia and South Korea joined Japan and China in the semi-finals of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's Asia Cup after winning their respective playoffs in Amman.

Australia defeated rivals New Zealand 72-61, while South Korea overcame Chinese Taipei 80-74 to join them in the last four.

Defending champions Japan, seeking a fifth straight title, and China had already qualified for the semi-finals by virtue of topping their groups.

Japan will play Australia and China take on South Korea in the next round, with both matches scheduled for Saturday (October 2).

Park Hye-jin led the South Korean team to victory in their clash against Chinese Taipei as she scored 22 points, while racking up four rebounds and four assists in a hard-fought win.

Sami Whitcomb showed her class for Australia as she amassed 29 points in their triumph over New Zealand.

Lauren Scherf also weighed in with an important 13 points and six rebounds to set up a crunch meeting with Japan, who are aiming to maintain their dominance of the continental tournament.
